And so it goes. \u00a0Your hearing, that is.\u00a0But the irony is that it seems like everything I don’t want to hear is getting louder. Traffic on the street rumbles, roars more. Don’t they make mufflers anymore? And so I turn up my Ipod because the bus sneaks up, I swear, just as the Sherlock Holmes is about to reveal the murderer is… rummmbllellleeell screeech, rev rev….and that’s when I noticed the bullet was really made of gutta percha, Watson….<\/p>\n

\"\"I knew I was getting older when a classic \"\"<\/a>black GTO went blasting down the street and my first reaction was, “slow down, I’m trying to listen to my program….jackass”.<\/p>\n

It isn’t just that the noise is loud, it is irritating. \u00a0And I’m sure I taught my kids to speak up. And my husband is doing that turning his head while talking to me thing just to make me think I’m going deaf.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Then I found this site – the RNID<\/a> (Royal National Institute for Deaf People…don’t ask me why it isn’t DNIDP<\/span> but I’m sure they have a damn good reason…they are ROYAL, after all). The nifty thing about this site is it has an online hearing test<\/a>–not to be taken as a substitute for a real hearing check-up, of course but it will give you a bit of an indication. It uses background noise in increasing levels to determine how affected your hearing may be.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
