Most Americans are aware of this but confused as to the reason why. It\u2019s because our harvest is earlier. Yes, that is the only reason. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">It is a government legislated holiday. On January 31, 1957, \u00a0Parliament proclaimed:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">&#8220;<span style=\"color: #993366;\">A Day of General Thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed&#8230;<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #800080;\">to be observed on the second Monday in October<\/span><em>.<\/em><span style=\"color: #000080;\">&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Canada-USA.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2581\" title=\"Canada USA\" src=\"http:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Canada-USA-300x211.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"127\" srcset=\"https:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Canada-USA-300x211.jpg 300w, https:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Canada-USA.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/><\/a> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Thanksgiving is the only holiday celebrated on both sides of the border but on different days. Easter is determined by the lunar calendar; Christmas is fixed to the 25th of December for a number of reasons.
