Yes, there are some who equate pets with slavery, that animals in this position are being demeaned, debased, not allowed to <a href=\"http:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1000845.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-3138\" title=\"P1000845\" src=\"http:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1000845-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"135\" srcset=\"https:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1000845-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1000845.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/><\/a>reach their full potential in animalness. It doesn\u2019t change anything to point out we have manipulated the outward appearance and physical structure of many of these critters to the point they would not survive outside of our care. To some extent they can fulfill their animalness, realistically, in our homes&#8211;that cat napping on the couch, in terms of catness, has achieved satori. I would argue, when that cat is napping on my lap, purring, I\u2019m fairly close to that state too&#8230;until my legs go to sleep. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: 'Quattrocento Sans', sans-serif; font-size: small;\">She is a big cat.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Quattrocento Sans', sans-serif; font-size: small; color: #000000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stranger_in_a_Strange_Land\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-3149\" title=\"Classic SF\" src=\"http:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Stranger-2-copy-195x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"117\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Stranger-2-copy-195x300.jpeg 195w, https:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/Stranger-2-copy.jpeg 521w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 117px) 100vw, 117px\" \/><\/a>2.<strong> Reading<\/strong> &#8211; literacy, looking at the scribbles on a page or a sign and understanding what another person is thinking or warning me about. It is amazing, as you read these words you are hearing my thoughts&#8230;maybe not exactly as I thought them but those ideas, my voice, is in your mind. We grok&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Quattrocento Sans', sans-serif; font-size: small; color: #000000;\">3. <strong>Indoor plumbing<\/strong> &#8211; it is possible, in a few countries, to identify where you are by the plumbing. Seriously. Of course there is the adventure that is Mexican bathrooms, opening a new door brings a new configuration of pipes, water pressure and, um, lets <a href=\"http:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1090925.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-3143\" title=\"P1090925\" src=\"http:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1090925-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"135\" srcset=\"https:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1090925-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1090925.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/><\/a>just say the one rule is always have some form of shoes upon your feet.\u00a0You can tell a German toilet, on the other hand, by the rather unique feature they all\u00a0seem to have, i.e. a little platform in the bowl, a landing stage, as it were, for whatever\u00a0you\u2019ve produced to be viewed: inspected for imperfections or signs of illness or simply admired\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: 'Quattrocento Sans', sans-serif; font-size: small;\">before flushing away\u00a0in an efficient cascade of water.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Quattrocento Sans', sans-serif; font-size: small; color: #000000;\"> <a href=\"http:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1030351.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-3142\" title=\"P1030351\" src=\"http:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1030351-300x276.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"166\" srcset=\"https:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1030351-300x276.jpg 300w, https:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1030351.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/><\/a>4. <strong>People<\/strong> &#8211; not just friends, I mean people on the street, that you don\u2019t know and meet only in the action of walking past them. Contact with these other lives, however brief, opens a little window into other worlds, experiences. Everyone of them has a mother, started as an infant, went through years of living to reach this one point where your shoulders brush past each other. Meditate on this next time you find yourself standing in line at the bank or jammed into a bus or subway.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Quattrocento Sans', sans-serif; font-size: small; color: #000000;\"> 5. <strong>Mornings &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>It\u2019s a \u2018do-over\u2019 every day. Some days are not as much fun as others but each morning is putting your foot on a new trail or new section of the trail. This is not the so over-used cry of carpe diem, so much as be very quiet and look for something rustling over there between those trees&#8230;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Quattrocento Sans', sans-serif; font-size: small; color: #000000;\"> \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1020920.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3141 aligncenter\" title=\"P1020920\" src=\"http:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1020920-252x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"252\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1020920-252x300.jpg 252w, https:\/\/suddenalarm.blaseckie.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/P1020920.jpg 672w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 252px) 100vw, 252px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1.
