Happy Birthday Canadian Broadcorping Castration

CBC is 75 years old today. Needless to say there are many programs on air today that will go back over pieces from their archives–both radio and television.

Here is my favorite clip, a scrum interview with Pierre Trudeau at the height of the Quebec Crisis in 1970. It is 7 minutes of history and contains that most famous quote, “just watch me”.

How likely is it we will ever see this kind of honesty and interaction with the public media today? How likely is it the current Prime Minister will get so close to the press, spar with them, impromptu, toe to toe, thinking on his feet?

It shows the chilling intellect of Trudeau–“well, let them bleed” is another of my favorite lines in here.

Anyway, sit back for the next 7.6 minutes…oh, and don’t worry about that other guy who keeps drifting between the camera and Trudeau. He realizes he ain’t gonna get to ask his question, gets tired of being poked at by the camera crew and moves out of the shot after a minute or so.
