The thing

Ah, St. Patrick’s day and a John Carpenter movie. What more could anyone ask for. Invasions by aliens and drinking oneself senseless – the two main themes of modern life. Why? I don’t know but it seems to all be back in vogue. Kids are drinking themselves senseless and driving like lemmings into street lamps and other cars. Nothing much has changed.
For a generation that is supposed to be so much smarter and have it more together than us old farts, they seem to be making all the same mistakes only with faster cars and a few more tailor made drugs. Ecstasy is a boutique version of MDA which was popular when I was a teen and Meth was around then but not the crystal form. It was thought to be just about as stupid to take up then as now. The problem is it’s the same people thinking its stupid – i.e. my generation – then as now.
When I was a teenager we were pretty sure you were a glue sniffing loser to take up meth or pcp.’s just ’cause we knew it really messed you up. Then again, we had other things we did that were pretty stupid. I guess that’s what growing up is all about – surviving the stupid shit long enough to realize just how lucky you are.
