1. Spring. It’s here, finally. The Japanese plum trees are in bloom, the birds outside are busy building nests, perching on wires, chirping while they work. Our cockatiel, Bob, is chirping along, to say hello to them and to draw my attention to a cage much in need of cleaning. Well, he really isn’t so fastitidous himself, it’s just that a clean cage means a full food dish and fresh water. Plus, maybe a treat. He doesn’t care about the seasons except that maybe there’s more daylight and more action outside his window.
2. Walking. I live in a place in the world where I can walk because I want to get a little air, a little sunshine, a little exercise for my fat ass and bored little dog. I don’t have to walk 2 miles each day in unrelenting sun to get clean water. Or to gather dried animal dung to burn to boil the water.
3. The man outside church this morning. He had his hat out but I didn’t have any change for him. I nodded at him anyway, so he wouldn’t think I was ignoring him. He smiled back and said, “wow, I like what you got going on with your hair…that’s wild.” At my age I’ll take flattery about my looks where I can get them.
4. My laptop. The letter h doesn’t always work wen I first hit it but that just keeps me on my toes going back to make sure it’s tere thhhhhere present.
5. Towels. There never seem to be any in the closet to put out and I know I only have a few in the laundry but is there anything in the world that feels as good as a fresh, clean towel right out of the dryer? Yeah, okay, there are lots of things that feel pretty great…but you gotta admit a fluffy warm towel is up there on that list.
