Gang aft aglay

That certain age is weighing heavily upon us now. The senior generation are starting to take their final bows and we admire those that still face each day with determination to acheive those things we, in our youthful arrogance, take for granted. As adolescents we had that assumption those older than us knew nothing, we invented the world and all the fun things in it. Now we’ve reached the age where the older generation is starting to dissolve into senility and physical incapacity. It isn’t that they know less than us, it truly is a matter now of them having forgotten more than we will ever know.
I ask, now and then, for the war stories of my one remaining uncle who went through WWII and he manages to find his way to talk a bit about it but how can I possibly imagin the pain of a youth spent in mud, blood and the moment to moment possibility of obliteration.
And I was going to try to write something jolly today. But the best laid plans etc…
